Revenge of DEI

In the first moments of the Boss Chaos era in early 2025,  as Elon Musk prepared to take on his role as Lord High Executioner, his reaction to the horrific fires in southern California was to not only lay responsibility on fire fighters but claim they were incompetent because of rampant DEI hirings.  It was the first absurd but deadly earnest indication of one of the main throughlines of the Chaos administration: supporting white supremacist ideology by demonizing decades of efforts in quest of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion.

Since then hundreds of people in the federal government have lost their jobs because they dared to do their jobs, administering so-called DEI programs mandated by law and administrative direction at higher levels. This was also part of the Secretary of (White) Testosterone Hegseth's purge of non-whites and women from top levels of the US military.

There were other relentless efforts to erase from official histories any suggestion that white people had ever suppressed equality and inclusion, or even that diversity existed and does exist (such as the official fired for noting on a website that it was Indigenous Peoples Day.)

Then the Supreme Court joined in by dismantling the last Voting Rights protections, and red states in the south couldn't gerrymander minority districts fast enough.  Meanwhile, the American Gestapo known as ICE and related thug forces, went to war in the streets against brown people and anyone opposing their jackboot oppression. They created American concentration camps, black sites outside the law and decency.  Psycho Steven Miller and the Muskovites continued their relentless attempt to sculpt a white nation of intolerance and privilege for the few out of the blood and bone of American communities.

Then after protests, some of them huge and many of them just as relentless, and after some notable off-year elections, came Tuesday November 3, 2026.  With the second highest voter turnout nationally since women got the vote, with massive gains in black and Latino votes as well as changes in party by young white men and other groups, here is some of what happened:

In Georgia Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first black woman elected governor of any state in US history.  There were eight state government offices on the ballot, and all eight were won by Democrats--and all eight by black women.

As of this moment it is almost certain that Scott Colom will become the second black man elected Senator in Mississippi history.  The first was a former slave elected in the 1880s.

In Illinois Julianna Stratton was elected to the US Senate, bringing the number of black women in the Senate up to three for the first time in history.

In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed became the first Muslim elected to the US Senate.

In Minnesota, Peggy Flanagan will be the first Native American woman elected to the US Senate (likely to be joined by Mary Peltola of Alaska), and in New Mexico, Deb Haaland will be the first Native American woman elected Governor of any state.

Gina Hinojosa was elected the first Latina governor of Texas, and Xavier Becerra was elected the first Latino governor of California.

In New Hampshire, Chris Pappas will be the first openly gay man elected to the US Senate.

Maggie Ellis became the first LGBTQ+ candidate to be elected to a statewide office in Texas.  She will be the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.

And Allison Montgomery was elected as Alabama's first transgender state legislator, in a district that had gone for Chaos by 21 points.

Amy Klobuchar was elected as Minnesota' first woman Governor.  She was previously the first woman elected Senator from Minnesota.  All current women governors were reelected, and joined by four states electing their first women governors.  All together, a record high 17 states will have women chief executives.

There are doubtless other such stories among the many elections for Congress and within states won by Democrats across the country.

There is no recorded instance in which Republican efforts to slime Democratic candidates as leftwing and cultural extremists actually worked this time.  Minorities were activated, but other Americans mostly seemed to see diversity, equality and inclusion as pretty normal, and certainly American.

In recognition of this perhaps, Boss Chaos elevated Psycho Steven Miller to Chief of Staff in the White House.  He was the chief instigator of ICE Gestapo rampages. Reportedly he's already begun to purge anyone who might stand even temporarily in his way executing his extremist efforts to supercharge intolerance, cruelty and corruption.  A cross between an inarticulate Joseph Goebbels and Chaos mentor and McCarthy acolyte Roy Cohn, Miller is seen as an enabler of Boss Chaos' worst impulses.  His accession would seem to support Atlantic writer David Frum's contention that from Boss Chaos the worst is yet to come.

But the revenge of DEI was strong, and the opposition to Chaos has been immensely strengthened.  Miller's expected supercharged efforts will do damage and cause pain for the next two years.  But not without a fight. And vengeance comes again in 2028.
