Pacific Dusk

DUSK APPROACHES

while looking westward over the Pacific

while seeing the sun fade below the horizon

while awaiting the flash of phosphorescene

while imagining death might come during sleep

while realizing morning could have new meaning

while sensing the inevitable move closer

while family headstones make room for me

while remembering quicksand in cowboy movies

while everything sinks and becomes smaller

I marvel at my swelling passion to be me
