Among the many species threatened by the oil well disaster in the Gulf, gushing oil at five times the rate first estimated and still growing, are the sperm whale and the snowy plover. The deep ocean well is still not capped, and desperate clean-up efforts include oil burns on the water. The first oil could hit the Louisiana shore by Friday. Then it might not be premature anymore.
